SUSTAINABLE PUBLIC PROCUREMENT PROGRAMME
The Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) can be defined as the process by which public organizations make their purchases of goods and/or services contracting, taking into account, besides economic and financial aspects, the impacts that the product and/or service has among the environment throughout its life cycle, as well as social aspects, its effects on poverty eradication, equity, working conditions and human rights.
The development of sustainable markets requires, on one hand, that the demand demands products and services responsibly produced, and on the other hand, that suppliers and producers can satisfy these exigencies. It is unquestionable that sustainable purchases and contracting can proportionate a mechanism to encourage the exigencies needed of such products and provide suppliers the appropriate incentives for them to develop solutions. Acknowledging the great power of acquisition that the State has, the incorporation of sustainable criteria in its purchasing and/or contracting processes represents a big opportunity to influence in a significant manner in the market and encourage like this, the production and supply of goods and services more sustainable.
From IADS programmes and projects are developed to contribute with the elaboration and implementation of public initiatives in favour of incorporating public sustainable purchases as a politic.
